It's a weird one this, isn't it?
On the one hand, I'm glad that Davis feels strongly enough about 42 days to resign from the House over it.
On the other hand,
1) he's resigning from a shadow cabinet that also opposes it.
2) he's a small-minded homophobic death-penalty-supporting, anti-Human Rights Act, libertarian right-wing little Englander.
Then there was Clegg, a right-winger on economic issues who nevertheless seems to have some idea of right and wrong on civil issues saying he won't field a candidate against Davis. Labour, not surprisingly, also aren't fielding a candidate. So I think that we can assume that he's going to win a seat he already has a comfortable majority in anyway (not quite sure what that says about folk of the East Riding but it's nothing very complimentary). In which case, how is this about 42-days?
Personally there are two lessons I take from this:
1) No Labour politician seems to have the guts to do what Davis is doing.
2) Davis is still an abhorrent little man who will nevertheless get a cabinet post when/if the Tories win next time - so I'm going to have to vote Labour again, something which I seem to promise myself never to do on a monthly basis.

'The Sun is in favour of 42 days, or even 420 days for that matter'
Beyond all expectations, David Davis appears to have managed to leave Labour looking good after the humiliation of Wednesday. Unbe-fucking-lievable.
Apparently Kelvin will be running with the full backing of News International. So Kelvin McKenzie could realistically have his greasy right-wing arse in the Commons. If this was the day of the revolution and they were up against the wall I honestly couldn't decide who to shoot first.
